To the Citizens of Cooke County:
In reviewing Janice Warder’s ad in The Weekly News of Cooke County of April 3, 2008, she makes several allegations regarding Steve Gaylord and the www.cookecitizens.org web site. She states in her ad: “FACTS are FACTS! Cindy Stormer and cookecitizens.org (Steve Gaylord) like to manipulate the truth through omissions and misleading ads!”
The truth is the ad www.cookecitizens.org ran in The
Weekly News of Cooke County the previous week clearly stated in large Bold
Type “Excerpts from The
Associated Press”. The ad then proceeded to include several
paragraphs, “word-for-word” from the Associated Press
article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
While three paragraphs were omitted, apparently they were not important
to Mrs. Warder, as she didn’t list any of them in her so-called list of FACTS
that she claimed we omitted.
The three omitted paragraphs and
the full original article were fully available for anyone to view from the
links on the www.cookecitizens.org
web site. We also listed an additional
ten or so news web sites that had carried the story. Visitors were free to look directly at any of those “independent”
news stories with no changes by Steve Gaylord or www.cookecitizens.org. As best we can tell, none of them carried
any of Mrs. Warder’s so called FACTS in their stories. Several omitted more
paragraphs than we did. Please see for
yourself. Was there a “right-wing”
conspiracy across the State of Texas News Organizations to “to
manipulate the truth through omissions”? We think not. Some have since
taken it down, apparently due to time limit agreements with the Associated
Press. However, Google tends to cache
many news articles so we have updated the links to point to the Google Cached
copies.
THERE WAS NO EFFORT TO MISLEAD OR MANIPULATE THE TRUTH by www.cookecitizens.org or Steve Gaylord. PERIOD.
Some of her facts are clearly her opinions. We believe facts should be verifiable by an independent source, which is why we often provide the links to where we got the data or information from on our web site. If indeed the so-called FACTS she quotes in her ad are true, why doesn’t she post the Judge’s ruling and supporting documents she is referring to on her web site so everyone can see them? Could these be like the letter she claimed to have that she claimed exonerated her of any wrongdoing in the Chabot case but was unwilling to share it with anyone but her friends? Did she forget to show it to Judge Mike Snipes?
Mrs. Warder claims that it was incorrectly reported and repeated by Steve Gaylord that it was a Rape trial, when in fact it was a Murder trial. Apparently repeating what the Associated Press and Dallas Morning News said makes me guilty as charged. However, this was not an ordinary murder trial. It was a Capital Murder trial, which requires special aggravating circumstances, (my understanding as a non-lawyer). It is my understanding that the rape or similar level of offense was required to elevate the murder charge to Capital Murder. Furthermore, as I understand it, the only punishments available for a conviction of Capital Murder are Life-in-Prison or Execution. Maybe that is why she chose not to pursue the rape case separately. The truth is every ad we ran talked about a prosecution for Rape & Murder. I have posted the three ads we ran regarding the Chabot case under the Ads section of the web site or you can follow this link to view them: http://www.cookecitizens.org/id14.html.
I could go on but I think you get the point. Apparently if the truth is hurting the chances of Mrs. Warder getting elected, she’s more than willing to strike out and accuse others of manipulating the truth through misleading ads. This is typical of the smears utilized in her campaign, starting at the first forum in January. (Yes we have the recordings and can make them available upon request.). I guess she now wants to play victim because we paid to put the truth in front of Cooke County citizens. However, she has no remorse for sending someone to prison for more than 20 years with false testimony by the person we know was the owner of the gun and the DNA evidence now shows committed the rape. I agree with the Dallas DA and judges at the District and Court of Criminal Appeals level that have reviewed this case, he should get a new trial.
Anyone want to volunteer to be the next person convicted of Capital Murder by Mrs. Warder based primarily on false testimony?
