Participation in the Republican Primary Process

Dear TFRW Member

For those of you who may be unaware of the election law in the Texas Primary, here is some information you may need to know.

As you may have heard on the news, some Texas Republicans are actually considering voting in the Democrat's primary for one of their presidential candidates.  But are there any consequences of this action?

Your  orange voter registration certificate (which you should have received by now if you are registered to vote for the Primary) has a blank space in the center of the card, "Voted in the _________ Party Primary."   When you go to vote (either during early voting or on March 4), the blank space will be stamped either Republican or Democrat, depending upon which Primary you choose.   Hopefully you will choose the Republican.   Also, at the same time, the election judge or clerk will stamp by your name either "Republican" or "Democrat" on the voters' list, depending upon which primary  you choose.  The voter list is then provided to the respective parties so they know who voted in their primary.

If you did or did not vote in the primary you may vote in the runoff ... however, if you voted in the Primary, you may only vote in a runoff in the same party you originally voted.

Your vote is very important to the Republican Party, on the National, State AND Local level.  Also, since some of your counties may have run-offs in the Republican side, your vote is especially important.

At your Precinct on March 4, the election judges will have the voter's list for that precinct to see who has already voted in the early voting period (so no one can try to vote more than once).   They then mark it as those people who have not voted previously come in to vote during that day.   Also, the RNC database will have you recorded accordingly.  AND, you will not be eligible to attend your Republican Precinct, County/SD, State or National Conventions this year.

You can find out more about the process at the RPT website, texasgop.org.

All voting Republicans are encouraged to attend their respective Precinct convention after the polls close on March 4.  Check with your local county chair/HQ to find out details in YOUR county.

Special thanks to Dee Ann Williams, President of Gillespie County Republican Women, for calling this important issue to my attention and researching it carefully.
